The Cross-sells feature is a powerful tool which enables you to offer a customer an alternative product(s) after a designated time period. Using the Blueprint Wizard, you will be able to see the most popular products, common follow on products and the average re-order gaps between those orders. By offering the correct product at the optimal time when a customer will want to make another purchase, the resultant conversion rate and LTV will be increased.
How to Setup (Method 1)
There are two ways to set up Cross-sells. The first would be through the main page:
- Navigate to Cross-sells
- Select 'Add rule'
- Add a 'Cross-sell name' (e.g the name of the product/variant and then name of the product to be cross-sold)
- In the section 'When someone buys any of' select the 'add' button
- A list of all products listed in your Shopify store will appear. It will show the item with thumbnail image, the amount in stock and the listed price of that product. Select the product(s) you'd like to create for this cross-sell. You can add multiple products and variants to your list meaning that if a customer purchases one or more of these products, it will automatically trigger the upsell replenishment.
- In the section 'Recommend all of these products' select the 'add' button and repeat the process of choosing a product you'd like to be offered.
- Set the time you'd like this message to be triggered. If needed, select the 'custom' option to manually add in the correct number of days post order that you'd like this message to be sent.
- If you want to stop this cross-sell being triggered because the customer has ordered the recommended product before, select the toggle on.
- The final step is editing the ‘Cross-sell message’’ to your desired response. As with all automated messages we suggest you customise with your brand tone of voice. The dynamic brackets which can be used are {first_name}, {brand_name} and {recommended_products}. The {link_to_checkout} will be replaced with one click checkout link for each customer message based on the Upsell products you’ve added. Once happy with the message, click ‘save’ to create the new replenishment group.
How to Setup (Method 2)
You can also setup cross-sells using the Blueprint Wizard. This will show a list of your Shopify products and contain important information, in particular the Average Reorder Gap between purchases.
- Navigate to Cross-sells
- In the 'Cross-sell-able products' box, select 'view products'
- This will open up the Cross-sell Wizard displaying the products that are most commonly re-ordered. It will show:
- The product name and variant.
- The total purchases of that product.
- The follow on product
- The total number of follow on purchases
- The rate of follow on purchases (how many of the total purchases then make a follow on purchase - displayed as a percentage ).
- The Average Reorder gap (the average time between one order and the repeat order). - Select the product variant you'd like to create a replenishment for and select 'Create rule'.
- It will then take you to the cross-sells creation page. You will see that the products have already been loaded as well as the 'Send cross-sells message after' timeframe set to the time of the average reorder gap. Make sure to set the Cross-sell name and edit the replenishment message accordingly.
Notes
- Both replenishment and cross-sells send separately and will both send if triggered from a single purchase.
- The automations will run again based on every purchase. Each purchase will trigger the relevant cross-sell campaigns and they can be sent multiple times.
- Cross-sell messages will be sent on the timeframes set. The wizard will make suggestions based on the history of all purchases of that product not an individual customer's orders.
- Cross-sell messages with the highest priority will always be sent. It is not considered whether a cross-sell message has been previously sent.
- There needs to be a minimum 10 purchases to display.
- There needs to be a minimum purchase rate 25% to display.
